Super Susan’s Story – And Why Every Second Counts in a Stroke

In healthcare, there are moments that remind us why we do what we do. One of those moments arrived when our dear patient — and now our local hero — Susan experienced a life-altering stroke.

Affectionately known around the clinic as “Super Susan,” she’s someone who’s touched all of us with her warmth and resilience. Her story is both a wake-up call and a source of hope.

Not long ago, Susan lost total function of her right side. The stroke came suddenly, changing the course of her life in a matter of seconds. It was a terrifying time for her family, especially her devoted daughter, Tracy, who stepped into a caregiver role without hesitation.

But week by week, Susan is improving. Through therapy, support, and sheer determination, she's gradually reclaiming strength, movement, and independence. Watching her progress is nothing short of inspiring.

Her journey reminds us that when it comes to stroke, every second truly counts. The faster a stroke is recognized and treated, the better the chances of recovery. That’s why knowing the signs and acting quickly is vital — not just for medical professionals, but for everyone.

Know the Signs of Stroke: Think FAST

One of the easiest ways to remember stroke symptoms is with the acronym FAST:

  • F – Face drooping

  • A – Arm weakness

  • S – Speech difficulty

  • T – Time to call emergency services

Stroke can happen to anyone, at any time. It’s not just an “older person’s issue.” Recognizing the symptoms early and calling emergency services immediately can dramatically improve outcomes.

Why This Matters

We’re sharing Susan’s story with her blessing, not just to celebrate her progress, but to raise awareness. If this message helps even one person recognize a stroke and act quicker, it will be worth more than gold.

So today, we ask you to do one thing: share this message. Talk to your loved ones about stroke. Teach your children, your parents, your friends about FAST. You never know whose life you might help save.

And to Susan — our superhero — thank you for letting us share your story. You continue to inspire us all.
